EXPAREL Pain Management
As you are aware, narcotic (opiate) abuse is a major problem in the world. In the state of Arizona, two people a day die due to narcotic abuse. Often the first contact that someone has with narcotics is following the extraction of their wisdom teeth. Almost everybody uses narcotic pain medication following this procedure.
In the summer of 2016, I received a letter from the United States Attorney General stating, that as a healthcare provider, I need to do my part to reduce narcotic use. I took this letter very seriously and researched for an alternate postoperative pain relieving option. I found a nonnarcotic pain relieving medication (Exparel) related to a medication that has been used for decades for immediate pain relief (Bupivicaine). This medication was altered in a way that when injected at the surgical site, it provides a time released pain relief over 72 hours.
Our office is pleased to offer EXPAREL. A single dose can help control pain and may decrease your need for narcotic medication.
What Makes EXPAREL Different?
EXPAREL starts working before you feel the pain. Your doctor injects it directly into the surgical site during your procedure.
EXPAREL numbs the area around the surgical site.
EXPAREL is not a narcotic medication.
EXPAREL provides long-lasting pain control, meaning you may need less narcotic and over-the-counter pain medication.
